In the ‘Atkins’ cholesterol diet, foods rich in carbohydrate are not advisable. Instead, you are encouraged to consume fat and protein. ‘Atkins’ diet has four parts- Induction, Ongoing Weight Loss, Pre maintenance and Maintenance. Your intake of carbohydrate is restricted to 20 grams/day in the Induction phase which lasts for 14 days. Dr. Atkins has emphasized that one should reduce the consumption of carbohydrate to not more than 60 grams/day because the consumption of carbohydrate increases the production of insulin and thereby fats.
