| A Suitable Diet and Exercise Help To Reduce Cholesterol |
|
The two major factors are an unsuitable diet and lack of exercise. In order to prevent high cholesterol we need to eat the right kind of foods and exercise. A diet that is largely sourced from foods of animal origin such as dairy products, eggs, red meat, shellfish and organ meats contain a high amount of saturated fat. Poultry products contain a lower amount of cholesterol. If we were to look at food as a pyramid then vegetable and fruits should ideally form the major content of our diet and would be at the bottom. The next layer would be whole grains or cereals. The layer on top of that would consist of fish and lean poultry. On top of the pyramid are foods that should be consumed to the least extent as possible i.e. foods such as ice cream, milk, cheese, butter or other dairy products and red meat. Exercise plays a very important role in reducing cholesterol levels. Vigorous exercise for at least 30 minutes a day increases the HDL cholesterol and decreases the LDL cholesterol in our blood and helps to reduce the risks of atherosclerosis. By exercising regularly and eating the right kind of foods alone, we can significantly reduce the risk of coronary artery disease. Related Articles |
