Cholesterol levels are best when kept under control. As they increase, they bring along a host of other problems like heart diseases and other health conditions. Cholesterol levels are also affected by various other conditions and they are likely to increase or decrease depending on these very conditions. Here are a few conditions that are interrelated with cholesterol levels.

Menopause and cholesterol
Before menopause, women have lower total cholesterol levels as compared to the men. The cholesterol levels in men and women rise until the age of 60 to 65 years. After women have had their menopause, the LDL levels in their blood tend to increase while the HDL levels witness depreciation.

After the women have crossed 50 years of age, their total cholesterol levels are higher than those of the men. Therefore, menopause definitely has a negative impact on the cholesterol levels in women.

Smoking and cholesterol
Smoking is definitely injurious to heart's health in the way that it increases the risk of heart diseases. Also, smoking raises the LDL or bad cholesterol levels and speeds up the problem of atherosclerosis. Thus, smoking raises the cholesterol levels and so if you are suffering from high cholesterol levels, smoking is a strict no-no.

Diabetes and cholesterol

People who suffer from diabetes are at the risk of having high cholesterol levels. They are all likely to have high triglycerides and low HDL or good cholesterol levels. Thus, they are at higher risk of suffering from heart diseases. Diabetes is surely a risk factor for high cholesterol.

Stress and cholesterol
It is not stress but the way the people handle stress that can affect the cholesterol levels of the individuals. Stress is often the result of the way you react to the emotional, physical, chemical or environmental factors. You might indulge yourself in to a lot of physical and mental effort to cope with it.

If you handle stress by indulging in to overeating then you are all likely to suffer from high cholesterol levels. Overeating foods rich in saturated fats is not at all a good way to handle stress because it could lead to further cholesterol related problems.
