‘Atkins’ Cholesterol Diet

‘Atkins’ cholesterol diet is a type of low carbohydrate diet which has proven to be effective in reducing cholesterol. This low fat diet regimen helps reduce triglyceride levels and levels of HDL, the good cholesterol. Atkins cholesterol diet high, a low carbohydrate diet is very useful for diabetic patients.    

In the ‘Atkins’ cholesterol diet, foods rich in carbohydrate are not advisable. Instead, you are encouraged to consume fat and protein. ‘Atkins’ diet has four parts- Induction, Ongoing Weight Loss, Pre maintenance and Maintenance. Your intake of carbohydrate is restricted to 20 grams/day in the Induction phase which lasts for 14 days.

In the phase of Ongoing Weight Loss, you are allowed to experiment and determine different carbohydrate levels that help you to continue losing weight. However, in the phases of pre-maintenance and maintenance, you can decide which level of carbohydrate consumption helps you to maintain your weight. Thus, cholesterol level can be maintained through ‘Atkins’ diet.        

Dr. Atkins has emphasized that one should reduce the consumption of carbohydrate to not more than 60 grams/day because the consumption of carbohydrate increases the production of insulin and thereby fats. This diet by Dr. Atkins helps treat obesity and blood cholesterol. Thus, Atkins diet is very effective in cholesterol management.
