A low cholesterol diet doesn't mean that you land up starving your self and losing weight to the bones. It simply means avoiding certain foods and increasing consumption of certain other foods.

A diet wit less saturated fat is an ideal diet for your over all health and cardiac rehabilitation.

In case of high cholesterol level in your blood, the first recommendation from your doctor is a modification in your diet. Remember that diet is a very essential step in the treatment of high blood cholesterol. High blood cholesterol is an unhealthy situation that may lead to clogged arteries and cardiovascular disease.

A low cholesterol diet  plays a great role in lowering cholesterol. The following are the features of a low cholesterol diet.

1. Eat less saturated fat food.  
2. Prefer unsaturated fats like hydrogenated oils.
3. Eat the foods which have complex carbohydrates.  
4. Taking snacks high in fats and carbohydrates should be reduced.
5. Try to consume plenty of fruits and vegetables. They are low in calories and fat.

Try to keep away from red meat and fried foods as these are high on saturated fats. If possible avoid red meat and prefer lean meats such as chicken, fish, turkey and alike which are lower on saturated fat than red meat.

Even the diet prescribed in the TLC (The Therapeutic Lifestyle) diet program advocates a diet low in saturated fat and low cholesterol. Such a diet will help to reduce blood cholesterol level and decrease the chance of heart disease and other cardiovascular complications.

How to prepare food for low cholesterol diet to reduce cardiac risk?
The following methods are applicable for low cholesterol diet to reduce the saturated fats from your foods:

* Baking
* Broiling
* Microwaving
* Poaching
* Grilling
* Roasting to let the fat burn (use racks to place cuts of meat on an incline so that fat can drip away)

Healthy eating habits should be promoted for overall health and for reducing risk of heart disease. It is not hard to create a healthy eating habit. The only thing that you should keep in mind is not eating foods that will clog your arteries and make it harder for the heart to pump blood.
