Cinnamon and Cholesterol – The Relationship

The relationship between cinnamon and cholesterol has recently come to the attention of medical science. Although cinnamon has always been reputed to be a cholesterol fighting agent as per traditional medicine and folklore, the fact has not been clinically proven until recently.

A recent study has proved that cinnamon can be effectively used to lower cholesterol in people affected by type II diabetes. Now it is no denying that cinnamon is very effective in lowering bad cholesterol.

As a follow-up, numerous studies have been initiated to prove how cinnamon is beneficial in lowering cholesterol. There has also been research on the role cinnamon plays in reducing triglyceride levels. Now, it has been conclusively proven that cinnamon can be effectively used to lower bad cholesterol and triglycerides. Cinnamon however does not have any effect on the levels of HDL or good cholesterol in our bodies.
A recent study has used cinnamon and cholesterol supplementation to prove the effect of cinnamon in reducing cholesterol. The study has found that after taking cinnamon pills for a small period, both the levels of high blood cholesterol and triglycerides dropped by up to 30 % in most cases.

With the drop in the high cholesterol level, a person's overall health improves. Apart from LDL cholesterol and triglycerides, cinnamon can also lower serum glucose levels. Another good thing about the relationship of cinnamon and cholesterol is that there are no short term side effects of cinnamon.
