List of Foods That Are Low on Cholesterol

Although cholesterol performs critical functions in the body, an excess level of cholesterol can result in various complications such as heart attack, stroke and kidney damage.

Cholesterol is basically of two types. One is called as the high-density lipoprotein (HDL) and the other is known as low-density lipoprotein (LDL). LDL is bad cholesterol and HDL is known as good cholesterol. High cholesterol implies that there is an unfavorable ratio between LDL and HDL cholesterol.

It is very important to know the foods that are low in cholesterol. A high cholesterol level can lead to several complications in the body.  Following a low cholesterol diet can help you to reduce cholesterol.

1. Lean cuts of meat without any visible fat and poultry
2. Dairy products based on skimmed milk, low-fat buttermilk or nonfat milk, low-fat yogurt and low-fat soft cheese.   
3. Egg whites (not the yolks) or egg substitutes
4. Unsaturated vegetable oils such as derived from olive, corn, peanut, safflower, canola oil, and soybean.
6. Deep seat water fish such as salmon, cod, mackerel and tuna
7. Fresh vegetables such as onions, carrots, broccoli, spinach and cauliflower
8. Fruits such raspberries, watermelon, apples, bananas and grapes
9. Foods based on whole grains such as oats, barley, wheat.
