Travelling Tips For High Cholesterol Patients

High cholesterol patients need to be on the agile all the time to prevent their cholesterol levels from shooting. The need to be vigilant increases further when you are traveling. Here are some tips that will help ensure that your cholesterol levels stay in control even when you are traveling.

Eat healthy
Eating healthy is a must even while traveling if you wish to keep your cholesterol levels in check. Quite contrary to what many people believe, it is not too difficult to eat healthy when on a trip. Whether you are in the plane, car, hotel or simply roaming around the city, you can always manage to eat healthy and control your cholesterol levels.

* Plane travel - It is easy to get tempted by the range of unhealthy snacks offered at airports. Instead of giving into these calorific snacks, take your own along. Pack a couple of nuts, granola bars and even home made sandwiches. Take fruit juice instead of aerated and fizzy drinks.
* Car travel - If you think you will have to travel long distance by car, then simply take a few snacks along. Go in for pita bread, fresh fruits, and vegetable sandwiches. And, if you have to really stop over at some fast food joint, try to avoid the deep fried snacks.
* At the hotel - When at the hotel, you will constantly be posed with the option of choosing between healthy and unhealthy foods. Ask for fruit instead of hash browns. Go in for cereal instead of donuts if you are being served a continental breakfast.

Exercise while you travel
If you really wish to keep your cholesterol levels in check, then exercising is a must. Regular exercise is the key to keep your cholesterol levels from escalating further. It may not be feasible to continue with your regular exercising program, but you can surely fit in some or the other amount of physical activity into your daily regime. Go in for a brisk walk or a light jog everyday. And if you cannot do that, try doing simple cardio exercises in your hotel room itself. You could carry exercise DVDs with you to make your workout simpler.

Do not miss your medication
Even if you are eating healthy and exercising regularly, you cannot afford to miss out on your cholesterol medications. Before you leave for the trip, pen down all the medications and the dosage that you need to take. It is important that you carry extra doses along.

While you take along all your medications, remember to take them on time too. In case, you have difficulty in remembering your dosage, you could set a reminder in your phone. You could even ask your friend or a family member to remind you of your medicines.
